Great Britain : The black and white past.

Capybaras, a large South American rodent, were sighted living wild in England. They were believed to have escaped from a zoo in North Yorkshire. Left unchecked, this problem would have threatened the indigenous wildlife, farm animals, cyclists and the general public.

The government of the day acted quickly and decisively. In spite of opposition protests, they engaged the services of a large owl to rid the nation of this threat.

Very little evidence of this episode in British history survives. All that remains are a series of captioned photographs originally published in the News Chronicle which were recently discovered in a York loft. They are currently being restored and will be published as they become available. The articles and headlines which would originally have accompanied them remain undiscovered.
